Steve has a flare for technical writing, which is due largely to the
fact that he enjoys it so much. He has an unusually clear writing style
that makes the complex seem simple and the arcane seem familiar. Beyond
an in-depth knowledge of digital effects, his chosen profession, he is
also well read in the sciences with an excellent understanding of a wide
variety of scientific disciplines from Astronomy to Zoology. This deep
background provides a firm foundation for virtually any technical or
scientific topic and adds an innate understanding to help tell any technical
story.
Steve's main technical writing credit is, of course, his
very well received book "Digital
Compositing for Film and Video" (Focal Press). The main
praises of the book are its depth, comprehensiveness, and clarity.
Beyond his own book, Steve has written a white paper about the Digital
Intermediate process for DIP Revolution, the makers of a new software
color corrector for the Digital Intermediate industry. In addition
to these publications, he has written innumerable in-house procedures
documents and training programs for the staff.
Steve's wife, Diane, is a major technical writer in her own right
who writes user guides and training courses for many clients on the subject
of video post production. However, occasionally Diane will need some
added "technical muscle" for her writings and will tap Steve
for an assist. As a result, Steve as written the sections on Digital
Mastering and CIE chromaticity for Sonic Foundry, as well as the chapter
on MPEG compression for the book "How Video Works".
Diane Wright writes
Diane Wright's technical writing credentials are quite extensive
and range from writing selected chapters for a video production book
to the entire user's guide for video equipment to preparing training
courses then teaching them. In addition to learning the various software
products
and writing about them, Diane also does her own photographs and illustrations.
She does her own digital photography and screen grabs, which are then
formatted in Adobe Photoshop to add callouts or other graphic elements.
